Saying Goodbye to the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG

1 minute read

When Mercedes Benz first introduced the SLS to the U.S. back in 2010, it was one of the most iconic cars Mercedes Benz ever made. It had a sleek and sexy body that went back to the 300SL of the 1950's. Sadly, after only a few years on the market, Mercedes Benz is saying goodbye to the iconic SLS.

The SLS was not a car for sensible people. It was a car for someone who just went completely out of their mind. The gullwing doors were huge and impractical, but that didn't matter when they looked so cool. It also had a monstrous 6.2 liter V8 hand built by the people at AMG. This was a car that was made to be driven; for someone who wants to have fun driving and doesn't care what other drivers think.

Besides the AMG tuned V8, there was also an all electric version of the SLS, which had around the same performance figures as the gas powered version, but without the angry noise coming from the hood. To give the SLS a proper sendoff, Mercedes Benz will be producing a version of the SLS called the SLS AMG Final Edition before ending production in 2014.

The Final Edition of the SLS AMG will be making its final debut at the LA Auto Show next week. Hopefully, Mercedes Benz will have an explanation as to why they are killing off the iconic SLS. Until then, I can only say, "Farewell to the SLS AMG. You went before your time."
