The Tale of Formula One as Told by the Movie Rush

 

This weekend had premieres of many different movies. The one that looked the most interesting was Rush. Directed by Ron Howard, this film depicts the rivalry between two Formula One racers: James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

 

Taking place in the 1970's, Formula One racing was all about facing your fears and staring death in the face. Besides the impeccable dangers, it was also about the thrill of driving really fast.

 

Today, after many deaths of racers over the years, Formula One is much safer than ever. Cars have certain types of tires that must be used, engines can only have a certain amount of power, and if it looks like there may be a crash, a safety car goes out to slow the other cars down. That may sound good, but it does spoil the fun of racing.

 

Racing used to be about people who were passionate and wouldn't let anyone stand in their way of winning. Now, most racers worry so much about safety and rules, that they become robots and lose that passion for driving. Sure, less people die on the track, but the sport has now become absolutely boring to watch.

 

The same goes for driving on regular roads as well. All the ridiculous safety measures and speed zones just have taken the thrill out of driving these days. No wonder most teens don't want to drive, it's all just been completely ruined. Cars, both racing and non racing, should go back to where it used to be, before the pointless gadgets and safety devices. Back when all you did was put your foot down, concentrated on the road ahead, and just enjoyed driving. If only people would stop worrying about getting hurt and grow a pair of balls, maybe then would people understand why driving is by far one of the best thrills anyone could ever have.
