Today, all cars have four wheels on them. However, back in the 1960's, car companies were building cars with three wheels instead of four. This did bring down costs and allowed people in cities to cruise around, but they weren't very stable going around corners as the four wheeled cars were. This might be one of the reasons why all cars have stayed with the four wheeled design. Here are five odd examples of three wheeled cars.
Peel P50 - With just enough room to carry only one person, this wasn't very good on public roads due to it's top speed of 35 mph. But because it was very light, you could pick it up from the handle on the back and bring it wherever you're going.
BMW Isetta -This little bubble car started out with three wheels before switching to four, but drove the same with either set of wheels. You can fit two people inside, but don't park it against a wall because you won't be able to get out since the door is at the front.
Reliant Robin - Since you could drive this with a motorcycle license, this allowed many teens with no drivers license a way to get around. It also gave them a great way to die because since the third wheel was at the front instead of at the back, the car would instantly flip over every time you got to a corner.
Carver Car - This car has the same design as the Reliant Robin, but because it tilts every time you turn, it's much more stable and won't flip over. It also gives drivers the feeling of being on a motorcycle with the added benefits of a car.
Morgan Three Wheeler - Today, you don't see any three wheeled cars anymore. But Morgan have decided to bring back their three wheeler. It does look like a World War II fighter plane, and it does give drivers some fun and excitement on the road, even if it is extremely impractical.
