Introducing the Toyota FV2 Concept

1 minute read

Everyone remembers the Segway craze. It was supposed to be the future of walking or transportation for lazy people. Thankfully, the Segway never caught on. The only places where you still find Segways are historic tours.

Being a person who rode a Segway once, I can officially say that it does take some skill to ride one. You need to balance yourself in order to keep it from falling and if you lean too far forward or backward, you'll fall over. I know this from experience. Once you do figure out the secret to riding one, it gets pretty easy.

Now, Toyota has come up with a concept version of a Segway called the FV2. Instead of just two wheels that need to be balanced, this has four wheels: two on the side to keep it stable, one in the back, and one in the front. Driving it is pretty much like driving a Segway, you lean yourself either front or back to move it and left or right to turn it.

With four wheels and a windshield, it is much safer than a Segway. Toyota believes that this concept will let drivers feel more connected to their cars in the same way a rider is connected to their horse. There is no word yet on how fast this will go or if it will actually be produced. But it does offer lazy people an alternative to walking. The FV2 will be on display at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
